BRONCHOGRAPHY
The radiographic visualization of the bronchi and their branches.
WHAT DOES THE NURSE HAVE TO DO FOR A BRONCHOGRAPHY TEST?
~ Secure consent
~ Check for allergies to seafood, iodine or anesthesia
~ NPO 6-8 hours before the test
~ NPO until gag reflex returns to prevent aspiration
THORACENTESIS
Procedure to remove fluid from the space between the lining of the outside of the lungs (pleura) and the wall of the chest.
WHAT DOES THE NURSE HAVE TO DO FOR A THORACENTESIS TEST?
~ Secure consent, take V/S
~ Position upright leaning on over bed table
~ Avoid cough during insertion to prevent pleural perforation.
~ Turn to unaffected side after the procedure to prevent leakage of fluid in the thoracic cavity.
~ Check for expectoration of blood. This indicates trauma and should be reported to MD immediately.
HOLTER MONITOR
Battery operated portable device that measures and records your hearts activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer depending on the type of monitoring used.
ECHOCARDIOGRAM
~ Ultrasound to assess cardiac structure and mobility
~ Client should remain still, in supine position slightly turned to the left side, with HOB elevated 15-20 degrees.
