Diagnostic Tests Flashcards
What are diagnostic tests ?
They provide info that aids in making a specific diagnosis. Tells you if they have the disease or they don’t
What is a dichotomus diagnostic test and some examples
There are only two possible answers (yes have disease or no don’t have disease)
Ex. radiographs, necropsy
What is a continuous diagnostic test
A continuum of possible answers
Ex. serum chem, antibody titers (still need to classify positive or negative)
What is a hematology diagnostic test ?
Measures amount of different cell types in a venous blood sample. (continuous test)
Ex. CBC, PCV
What is a biochemical diagnostic test ?
Measures enzymes, metabolites, proteins in venous blood sample (continuous test)
Ex. Liver enzymes, lipase, hormone assays
What is a immunological diagnostic test ?
Use antigen to measure antibodies (or vice versa) (continuous test)
Ex. SNAP tests (provide a dichotomous result), ELISA
The cut-off value is determine experimentally as the value that minimizes false positive and false negatives
t OR F
true
needed to aid in decision making
Which population have high test values
A. Non-diseased
B. Diseased
B. Diseased
