What is a C-Arm?
Mobile fluoroscopy unit used in surgery and at the bedisde
What is a Clinical Indication? CI
Notation recorded when diagnostic imaging is ordered. It is the reason for doing the procedure
What does CT stand for and mean?
Radiographic procedure using ionizing radiation. Creates computerized images of body organs in sections. Can be converted to 3d images
What is contrast media?
Substance used in diagnostic imaging that allows for distinguishing various body tissues.
What are on call medications?
Meds ordered by the physician to be given before a diagnostic imaging procedure. The department notifies the RN as to when the meds should be started.
What is a portable X-Ray
An X-Ray device that is moveable and can be taken to the patient’s bedside.
What is an ABG
Arterial Blood Gas. Test that measure the O2, C02, base excess, bicarbonate and pH of the blood. Used frequently in breathing difficulties or acidosis.
What is CBG
Capillary Blood Gases. Used primarily in infants when measuring the components of the blood. Taken from the infant’s venous arterial vessels located on the top of the head
ECG
Electrocardiography. Graphic recording of the electrical impulse that the heart generates during the cardiac cycle.
EEG
Electroencephalogram. Recording of the electrical activity of the brain.
EMG
Electromyogram. Record of muscle contraction produced by the electrical stimulation
ENG
Electronystagmography: : Dto evaluate rapid eye movement of the eyes and the muscles that control the eye.
EPS
Electrophysiologic Study: Method of obtaining evoked potential of the heart.
GI
Gastrointestinal Studies: Digestive studies related to the gastrointestinal system.
ICG
Impedence Cardiography: Flexible fast acting non-invasive monitoring system. Measures total resistance to the flow of electricity in the.heart.
