What is Type 2 Diabetes?
A
Consequence of insulin resistance that occurs at the level of skeletal muscle, liver and adipose tissue with different degree of B-cell impairment

Risk Factors
A
- Family History
- Ethnic Background (Native American, African American, Latino, Asian American, or Pacific Islander)
- Conditions associated with insulin resistance such as (1) acanthosis nigricans, (2) hypertension, (3) dyslipidemia or (4) PCOS
- History of maternal diabetes or mother with gestation diabetes when child was in utero

A
- Behavioral Changes (tearfulness, irritability, naughtiness)
- Confusion
- Slurred Speech
- Belligerence
- Diaphoresis
- Tremors
- Palpitations
- Tachycardia

A
- DKA resulting in:
> Anorexia
> Nausea
> Vomiting
> Lethargy
> Stupor
> Altered LOC
> Confusion
> Decreased Skin Turgor
> Abdominal Pain
> Kussmaul Respirations
> Fruity or Acetone Breath
> Presence of Ketone in urine or blood - Hypoglycemia
