Diabetes And. Misc Flashcards
Calculate sensitivity factor
Use sensitivity factor to calculate corrective dose.
- (Short acting) or 1800 (rapid- acting)/ total daily insulin dose
Corrective dose is (measured bg- desired BG)/ sensitivity factor
Rule of 1500/1800. - for what?
Estimate “sensitivity factor”
Carb counting. How many grams of carbs will one unit of short or rapid acting insulin cover
8-15 grams
How much insulin as proportion of TDD should be given as basal insulin?
Half
Estimate grams of carbs covered by one unit of short or rapid acting insulin ( use rule of 450/500)
450/TDD for short
500/TDD for rapid
CRAFFT acronym
Car - driven by someone who is high or using alcohol
Relax - ever used for this
Alone
Forget - things done when using alcohol/drugs
Family/ Friends
Trouble - when using alcohol or drugs
Admission criteria for anorexia nervosa: pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, other
Pulse less than 40, temp less than 96, blood pressure less than 70, wait less than 75% estimated ideal body weight, for the static instability, suicidal ideation, failure to improve without patient planned, electrolyte abnormalities, abnormal EKG
Recommended inpatient weight gain for anorexia treatment
Discharge criteria (weight, temperature, pulse)
when may exercise resume as fxn of ideal body weight
100-150 g weight gain per day
85% estimated ideal body weight, temperature greater than 97, pulse greater than sixty
They start stretching at 75%, start walking on treadmill at 80% estimated ideal body weight
With a crude mortality rate of X percent, this condition has the highest of all psychiatric conditions. What is X and what is the condition?
What related condition has a higher suicide risk?
5%, anorexia nervosa
bulemia nervosa
Management of female athlete triad. What is recommended weight at which all training should stop?
Give guidelines for management of exercise related to ideal body weight.
Exercise should stop at less than 85% ideal body weight (possible exception normal menses)
85-90% ideal body weight-reduced training by one half
90%-100% ideal bodyweight reduce training by one third
Definition of anorexia nervosa
- Refusal to gain or maintain weight at 85% of estimated ideal bodyweight
- Intense fear of gaining weight or being fat
- Distorted body image, or denial of seriousness of malnutrition
- Amenorrhea (three or more missed cycles)
Definition of bulimia
Binge eating, recurrent compensatory activity to prevent weight gain on average twice-weekly for three months. Does not occur only during anorexia episodes. Self-evaluation overly dependent on weight.
Female athlete triad
Disordered eating, amenorrhea, osteoporosis
