Diabetes Flashcards
investigate diabetes insipidus
best test?
water deprivation test
then desmopressin given
what does desmopressin do in cranial DI
rapid conc of urine
>50% rise in urine osmolality
what are the two causes of DI
management of the two causes?
cranial or nephrogenic
cranial : desmopressin intranasal
nephrogenic : thiazide diuretic
SIADH
would your serum be dilute or concentrated?
soaked inside
v v v dilute
in SIADH the serum Na+ is high and the urine Na+ is low
false
urine sodium goes UP
low sodium reflects excess water
T/F?
true as sodium is a measure of fluid status
hypovolaemic hyponatraemia?
what would be urinary soidum???
how do you manage???
DEHYDRATED
low volume of fluid
why?
diarrhoea
urinary sodium LOW
IV fluids
euvolaemic hyponatraemia
management
siadh
hypothyroidism
adrenal insufficiency
fluid restrict
central pontine myelionylysis
what causes this?
if you give fluid too fast in a severe hyponatraemia
so give hypertonic saline SLOWLY
what causes hypervolaemic hyponatraemia?
liver failure
renal failure
heart failure
