Tissue necrosis / phlebitis at injection site
Dextrose Dose (Adult)
25g slow IV/IO [D10 or D50] or until dose administered yields appropriate mental status
Dextrose Dose (Pedi)
0.5 - 1 g/kg slow IV/IO [D10 or D25]
Dextrose Precautions
Local venous irritation may occur in smaller veins, caution patient with increased ICP or cerebral edema, D50 should not be used in patients younger than 16 years, but may be diluted 1:1 with sterile water to make D25
