- Extravasation causes tissue necrosis
- Warmth, pain, burning, thrombophlebitis
- Rhabdomyolysis

Dosage and administration
A

Adult:
- 12.5-25 gram, slow IV

Ped:
- 0.5-1.0 g/kg slow IV
- Repeat as needed

Special considerations
A
- Administer thiamine prior to D50 in known alcoholics
- Draw blood for lab BGL prior to pushing D50
- Do not give to PT with CVA unless hypoglycemia is documented
