-2012- Coalition hold referenda on metro mayors- 9/12 cities reject
-2017- Metro mayors imposed on a number of cities with varying powers
What is a metro mayor?
-The directly elected leader of a combined authority
-They have executive powers and funding available to make decisions on issues such as transport etc
Current state of english devolution
-Power in England is still heavily centralised, been labelled as one of the most centralised large democracies in the developed world.
-The current arrangements for trying to decentralise power are confusing + messy
