Up to 4% of kids between 2 and 11 children.
What are the presenting signs and symptoms of developmental delay?
Isolated developmental delay in a domain.
Global delay.
Family history of developmental delay, syndromes.
Dysmorphic disorders.
What are investigations for developmental delay?
Specialized screening tests for Autism and ADHD.
IQ testing.
Infection screen.
Genetic testing.
Metabolic screen.
What is the management for developmental delay?
MDT approach: SALT, OT, PT, Family counselling, behavioral intervention and educational assistance.
Manage associated conditions.
What is the prognosis of developmental delay?
Usually good if isolated delay but global delay has a high association with syndromes – poor prognosis.
