Developmental Area Evaluation Flashcards
Principles of Developmental Area
looks at how people change and develop with age eg. childrens moral development changes as they get older
also views development as an interaction of the influences of nature and nurture
= banduara found children affected by enviro as they copy aggressive role models, but also found boys were more likely to copy than girls
Similarities between Kohlberg + Lee
Research Method
Kohlberg - quasi experiment as researchers didn’t control children’s ages
Lee - quasi experiment as researchers didn’t control ages or country they were from
Type of Data - qualitive
Kohlberg - interviews interpreted and placed in stages
Lee - children gave explanations for ratings
Differences between Kohlberg & Lee
Longitudinal vs snapshoty
Kohlberg - longitudunal as boys tested over 12 yrs
Lee - snapshot as compared two groups of children at difference ages at one point in time
Strengths of Developmental Area
Useful applications to childcare, education etc.
Bandura showed how children copy aggressive role models > 9pm watershed
Chaney showed children more likely to carry out desired behaviour when +vly reinforced >used in schools to improve behaviour
Variety of quantitive & qualitiative data
> Lee used both
> Kohlberg = qualitative
> Bandura = quantitative
Weaknesses of developmental area
Raises ethical issues
> work with children
> Bandura
Practical issues by working with children
> display demand characteristics (Bandura)
> not understand questions fully in questionnaires + not able to express thoughts well
