Development of the Urinary System Flashcards
The urinary system is generated from what type of primordial tissue?
intermediate mesoderm
increases in size and pushin into the coelimic cavity formign the urogenital ridge
lateral = nephrogenic ridge
medial = genital ridge
What structure is formed from the nephrogenic cord?
what are its features?
- pronephric kidney
- present during week 4
- 7-10 nephric tubules
- present in cervical region
- external and internal glomeruli
- does NOT function physiologically
What happens once the pronephric duct forms?
induces mesonephric kidney development
- starts formign week 4, regrsses in week 10
- secretes urine beginning week 6
- throacic and lumbar region
- drained by the mesonephric duct
- some are segmental, some not
What is one of the major functions of the mesonephric kidney?
increases amniotic fluid (urine)
What is the paramesonephric duct?
an invagination of the nephrogenic chord that parallels the mesonephrict duct
What are the characteristics of the metanephric kidney?
- induced to form by an outgrowth of the mesonephric duct
- forms int eh sacral region
- a non-segmented disjunct part of nephrogenic cord
- forms in week 5, tubules form thorugh week 34
- fully functional by week 12
What structure grows into the metanephrogenic blastema? What impact do they have on each other
uretary bud; cause induction of metanephrogenic blastema
the metanephorgenic blastema will wrap aroun the uretary bud, causing reciprocal induction
- metanephrogenic blastem: differentiate to kidney tubules
- uretary bud: form drainage tube, completely branch
What astructures are formed from the ureteric bud?
What structures are formed from the metanephric blasema?
- ureteric bud
- ureter
- renal pelvis
- major calyces
- minor calyces
- collecting duct
- metanephric blastema
- distal convoluted tubule
- loop of henle
- proximal convoluted tubule
- bownan’s capsule
- golmerulus
If the purple circle is the gonad, identify the other structures depcted by the diagram
Which duct is kept in female bodies? Which duct is kept in male bodies?
female: keeps paramesonephric
male: keeps mesonephric (reproduction and kidney are physically linked)
Which duct is pre-programmed for apoptosis? How can this be blocked?
mesonephric duct pre-programmed fro apoptosis
canb e blocked by presence of testosterone (Leydig cells)
Paramesonephric duct is stable once formed; anti-mullerian factor produced by sertolli cells leads to apoptosis
