Development of the Digestive System Flashcards
1
Q
where does the spleen develop?
A
in the dorsal mesogastrium
2
Q
where does the pancreas develop?
A
in the dorsal mesograstrium
3
Q
where does the liver develop?
A
in the ventral mesogastrium
4
Q
what is the duodenum? what are its main characteristics?
A
- the first portion of the small intestine
- it is the shortest part (20-25) and less mobile (since mostly secondarily retroperitoneal)
- C-shaped, mostly to the right
- its upper portion comes from: the foregut; and its lower potion: from the midgut
- pancreas, liver and biliary tree come from its upper (foregut) portion, from its budding and some invaginations
5
Q
the pancreas is…
A
a secondarily retroperitoneal organ
6
Q
what type of gland is the pancreas?
A
both endocrine and exocrine
7
Q
explain the development of the pancreas
A
- dorsal pancreatic bud → from the (foregut portion) duodenum
- ventral pancreatic bud → from the biliary tree
- while it is developing, since the foregut portion of the duodenum is attached to the stomach, it develops between the two layers of the dorsal mesograstrium
- it originates from the fusion of a dorsal bud and ventral bud during the repositioning of the duodenum
8
Q
what is developed from the foregut half of the duodenum:
A
- liver bud (hepatic diverticulum)
- hepatic cords
- buds of gallbladder and biliary ducts
- ventral pancreatic bud - dorsal pancreatic bud
