What is the Truman Doctrine?
Where USA would provide money to any country threatened by communism
What is the Marshall Plan?
The US will provide economic assistance to restore infrastructure postwar
Why was the Marshal plan introduced?
They thought collapsed economics would turn to communism. So by offering money it was reduce the appeal of communism
What were the consequences of the Truman Doctrine?
•Greek gov defeated communists
•US & USSR rivalry increased
•US provided economic aid to Europe
•1947, Stalin introduced Cominform
What we’re the consequences of the Marshall Plan?
•By 1953, the US had provided $17bn to help European countries rebuild their economics
•Divide between East and West became stronger
•Stalin accused US of using the plan for own selfish interests
What was Stalin’s reaction to the Marshal plan?
•Called it dollar imperialism
•Claimed US was trying to control industry and trade in Europe
•Refused to accept economical aid and stopped any Eastern bloc country applying for it
What is cominform?
Alliance set up in 1947 to help them plan and spread Stalin’s ideas
What is Comecon?
Set up in 1949 to coordinated the production and trade of the eastern European communist countries. They were expected to trade with each other not the East but this benefited US more than members

What was the cause of the Berlin Crisis/Blockade?
•Britain, France, USA merged zones of West Germany into one
•Britain, France and the USA introduced new currency to make it become economically stronger
•Capitalism was drawing people away from communist east
What was the result of the Berlin Crisis?
•Stalin felt threatened by Germany’s growing strength
•Stalin was angry West didn’t consult him in changed
•Stalin wanted cancer if sweat Berlin to be removed from East Germany
What was the Berlin Crisis/Blockade?
•In June 1948 Stalin cut off all road, rail & canal links to West Berlin
•Stalin wanted to starve West into submission
•West responded with massive air lift
•Lasted for 10 months before Stalin called it off in 1949

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation - Military alliance that committed all members to defend each other
When was Nato set up?
