A
- Following bus boycott, MLK became the voice of the civil rights movement, Stride Toward Freedom
- Became famous for non-violent tactics, shed a harsh light on the Whites™
- Other leaders, Stokely Carmichael and Malcolm X
- More leaders meant more publicity and more opinions expressed publicly
- However due to their more drastic viewpoints, they were portrayed as nightmare characters by the press

- Gained a lot of media attention, many did not know racism was that bad
- Little Rock 9
- Again gained a lot of publicity - made schools mixed in Little Rock in 1959
- However it was only in Little Rock

Black servicemen in WWII
A
- Many black people moved north during WWII to help with the industries of war, but many were turned away. A Philip Randolph organised a march to fight this.
- Led to president Roosevelt putting into action executive order 8802, one million black people were employed in 1944
- Double V campaign
- Increased NAACP membership from 50,000 to 500,000 throughout the war
- Although victory in Europe, little had been done back home.

- NAACP formed in 1909, gained traction with Little Rock 9, Rosa Parks, etc.
- Gained nationwide attention for civil rights issues had a large growing membership
- Black Panther party for self defence
- Added variation to the movement, allowed more people to have their specific opinions voiced
- However, again, they were made out to be criminals by the press
