If used on own as certain aspects of countries may be more developed than others
Are used to be two categories for economic development
Medcs and ledcs
MEDcs Northern hemisphere including USA uk European countries Australia and New Zealand
Ledcs generally in southern hemisphere including South America Mexico India China and all of African countries
Nees

China Brazil Russia India
Lics
Afghanistan Somalia Uganda and Nepal
Why using wealth / gni per head misleading
It’s an average doesn’t show variation
Between regions and courses for examples the rich in the big cities may have much higher levels of development then the Poor in rural areas
Example if you look at the Gni per head in Russia it might make it seem quite developed but in reality a small number of extremely wealthy people a lot of really poor
Physical Causes of uneven development
A poor climate
Few raw materials
Poor farming land
Natural hazards
Economic causes of even development
Poor trade links
Lots of debt
Economy based on primary products
Historical causes of uneven development
Colonisation and conflict
Consequences of uneven development
Wealth
GN I per capita in UK is over 40 times higher than in chad
Consequences of uneven development
International migration
Mexico a nee Borders USA aH IC
Over 130,000 Mexicans move to USA legally every year
Consequences of uneven development on health
In front mortality a lot less in a HIC
Eg UK equals 4/1000
Chad = 85/1000 births
UK life expectancy is 81 but Chad is 51
Reducing development gap
