What is a prolactinoma?
a pituitary gland swelling releasing prolactin. causes low estrogen with normal GnRH.
What is Sheehan’s?
blood loss after labour causing ischaemia to pituitary - hypo.
what is a hypopysectomy?
removal of the putuitary.
what is dysfunctional uterine bleeding?
irregular periods - either approaching menopause or just started periods
what is adenomyosis
endometriosis of the myometrium
what is pelvic inflammatory disease?
pain and bleeding and discomfort …result of an infection
what is endometriosis?
endometrium tissue outside of the womb. 25-40y, family link.
what are fibroids?
growths within the muscle of the uterus. obese, early menarche are both risk factors.
how does the combined pill reduce bleeding?
no ovulation means less oestrogen so less tissue build up.
what is mifepristone?
a progesterone receptor inhibitor used in abortion.
what is transexamic acid?
NSAID. Blocks plasmin production and therefore fibrin breakdown (prolong coagulation)
what is misoprostol?
a prostaglandin analogue causes uterine contractions ( can be used to help labour/ clear miscarriage)
what does clomifene citrate do?
binds estrogen. used to stimulate ovulation (block negative feedback of estrogen)
What is tamoxifen?
oestrogen receptor antagonist.
