What is development?
Improvement in the standard of living of people in a specific country.
What are 2 the factors of development?
e.g. better education, improved healthcare, increased wealth, improved quality of life, increased freedom of speech, improved environmental quality, increased peace and political stability
Describe the pattern of distribution of more developed and less developed countries in the world
The more developed countries tend to be mostly in the Northern hemisphere, whereas the less developed countries tend to be in the Southern hemisphere.
What is the development gap?
The difference in the levels of development between more economically developed countries and less economically developed countries.
What can no coastline mean for countries?
Tricker to trade and can limit development.
what can conflict or none mean for development?
Absence of conflict provides stability a country needs for development or vise versa
What was the richest continent 100 years ago?
Asia
What cause can natural hazards e.g. volcanoes do to a country?
Hold back development
What are cash crops?
things that poor countries export to earn their money e.g. coffee, bananas, cocoa
Give 2 examples of how to bridge the development gap independently
location - being by a shipping lane for trading
population - investing huge sums into education system so people earn lots of money for their country
What are the 4 ways of bridging the development gap?

What is aid?
Voluntary transfer of resources from one (usually developed) country to another (usually developing) for altruistic purposes.
What is foreign direct investment?
When businesses in one country put money into businesses in another country. This is not aid- it’s a commercial transaction with a view to making profit
