What is development?
Development can be defined as an improvement to people’s quality of life .
What is a developed country?
They are developed because they are able to provide the population with goods and services needed for a good quality of life. For example: England, France, America.
What is an emerging country?
Emerging countries are countries such as China and India where the quality of life has improved in recent years but is still not good enough to be a developed country.
What are the BRIC countries?
Brazil, India, Russia and China
What is a developing country?
They are the poorest countries in the world and so the quality of life here is lower.
What is Gross Domestic Product?
An economic measure of development. It is the total value goods and services produced in a country, per year.
What is GDP per capita?
It means per person
Disadvantage for GDP:
It doesn’t tell you how much money each individual person in a country actually has
What is inequality?
The difference between rich and poor
What is HDI?
HDI stands for Human Development Index. It is a composite measure of developmemt because it takes into account data from more than one measure
What are the scores for HDI?
Lowest 0 Highest 1
