A

Closes skills are performed in predictable environments where the performer determines when to start the action.
Ex dart throwing, archery, gymnastics, bowling & penalty

Open skills are performed under conditions where the surrounding environment is unpredictable and constantly changing.
Ex soccer, rugby, hockey & surfing

Gross motor skills vs fine motor skills: + examples

A

Gross motor skills involve large muscle movement, where the precision of the movement is not as important to the successful execution of the skill. Ex run, jump throw

Fine motor skills require control of the smallest muscle groups of the body to achieve the skill outcome. Generally involve hand-eye coordination and a high degree of precision. Ex writing, spin bowling, rifle shooting.

Continuos/serial/discrete. + example

A

Continuous motor skills have no distinct beginning or end points. Start and finish is determines by performer, not by task.
Ex swimming and running

Serial skill comprise several discrete skills put together into a series. Ex triple jump, serving in tennis, gymnastics routine

Discrete ms have distinct starting and finishing point. Ex pitting in softball, kicking penalty in soccer, catching ball in cricket
