Developer and Fixer Components Flashcards
Reducing agent; produces shades of gray rapidly.
Developing Agent - Phenidone/ Metol
Reducing agent; produces black tones slowly.
Developing Agent- Hydroquinone
helps swell gelatin; produces alkalinity; controls pH
Activator- Sodium Carbonate
Anti fog agent; protects unexposed crystals from chemical “attack”. (also potassium iodide)
Restrainer- Potassium Bromide
controls oxidation; maintains balance among developer components.
Preservative- Sodium Sulfite
controls emulsion swelling and enhances archival quality.
Hardener- Glutaraldehyde
Removes metallic impurities; stabilizes developing agent
Sequestering Agent- Chelates
Dissolves chemicals for use.
Solvent- Water
Neutralize developer and stop its action
Activator- Acetic Acid
removes undeveloped silver bromine from the
emulsion.
Fixing Agent/ Clearing Agent/ Hypo/ Thiosulfate- Ammonium Thiosulfate
stiffens and shrinks emulsion.
Hardener- Potassium Alum
Maintains chemical balance
Preservative - Sodium Sulfite
Maintains proper pH
Buffer- Acetate
Remove aluminum ions
Sequestering Agent - Boric Acid/ Salt
