Detector Dog Definitions Of Behavior Flashcards
SEARCHING
Behavior a dog exhibits when it is hunting for an odor it has been training to detect and it does so primarily by the use of its nose.
RANGING
Unique search behavior that is usually exhibited only when a dog is deployed in a large open search area, such as a field, forest, or large building.
PROOFING
To intentionally place specific odors in a search area other than the prescribed odors that a PSD has been trained to detect/locate, but may of been exposed to during training
DISCRETIONARY
To intentionally place items within a search area and determining if those items have the door of a controlled substance that the PSD has been trained to detect.
DIVERSION
Odor or object placed in a location with the obvious intent to divert the dog away
ALERT
A natural behavioral response to having spontaneously detected a trained drug odor, but without the display of a trained behavior.
