Detecting Planets Flashcards
State a use of a telescope
A telescope is a tool that astronomers use to see faraway objects. Some other uses:
-Observing outer space.
-Observing far away objects on earth.
-Photography/Astrophotography.
-Viewing light invisible to the human eye.
How do astronomers use telescopes?
A telescope is a tool that astronomers use to see faraway objects. Most telescopes, and all large telescopes, work by using curved mirrors to gather and focus light from the night sky.
Describe the 2 types of telescopes.
A refractor telescope uses a glass lens as its objective. The glass lens is at the front of the telescope and light is bent (refracted) as it passes through the lens. A reflector telescope uses a mirror as its objective.
