Detailed Data Analysis Flashcards
Data Analysis - Measures of Central Tendency - Mean
Arithmetic average - add up all values of the variables and divide by the total number of values
Data Analysis - Measures of Central Tendency - Mode
The most frequently-occurring value of a variable, simply which value comes up most
Data Analysis - Measures of Central Tendency - Median
The mid-point - order all the values of a variable from smallest to largest, then take middle value, as 50% equal to the median or smaller and 50% equal or larger
Data Analysis - Measures of Central Tendency - What works best
Mean and Median work best with Continuous variables, things measured on a precise scale such as percentages or age, where for Categorical variables, like gender or political party preference, Mode works best and is only tool for these variables
