How is a skin scraping preformed?

A

First step is to gently scrape the surface of the skin with a scalpel blade. When performed properly there will be a small irritated area on the the skin.

A

Skin, hair, dander, and sometimes mites if they are present.

A

That the scraping was done thorough enough to find mites that may have burrowed deep.

What is done with the scraped material?

A

It is put on a slide for viewing under the microscope. The slide is then methodically analyzed for mites, mite eggs, or evidence of a fungal infection.

A

No, it is only minor irritation and will resolve in a short time and does not need any medication.

It is a test that detects ion concentration of the urine. Small amounts of protein or ketoacidosis tend to elevate results.
