Designers Flashcards
James Dyson
Invention of DC01, traditional vacuum cleaner with round cylindrical body with cyclone inside. Flat wedge-shaped head with wheel at the back.
G Force was the name of Dyson first widely available vacuum. First to use dual cyclone separation technology. Licensed to a different company and used the money to start the Dyson company.
Use of cyclone tech was his big innovation and this wall celebrated in the collection tube being clear allowing the cyclone to be seen in action
Shape of air blade required users to place hands vertically into the air flow
The Dyson vacuum cleaner, air blade, Fans, hair care and lights all have a
functional aesthetic that looks interesting and highlights the different
functional elements in the design.
Uses colours to break up the form of what was a more traditional looking product.
User is able to see when the dust chamber is full and needs to be emptied. Allows to function as efficiently as possible providing user is prepared for emptying.
Using a ball in the base has improved function as the ball has made the vacuum easier to move around, and using many smaller cyclones is shown by the group of cyclones at the top of the collection cylinder.
