can expedite the learning process for user by associating the affordance of common physical world objects with the interface controls. This uses reference from real / physical world.
Metaphoric Design
are badly chosen metaphors, it can teach users the wrong program model.
Broken Metaphors
is the extent to which a user’s knowledge and experience in other real-world or computer-based domain can be applied when interacting to new systems.
Familiarity
is the intrinsic properties of any visual objects that suggest how such object can be manipulated.
Affordance
generally mean social behavior, law, norms, and customs of groups.
Culture
is having the same program model throughout your program.
Consistency
is the best way to know if your metaphor works.
