Created by repitition of colour and shapes and so on
Can link things together
Use words such as “repeat use of (colour/shape/font style/line etc)”
Can also say “unity created through proximity”
Alignment
Design principal
Alignment is the placement of text and graphics so they line up on the page
When things are in line with each other
order, organisation, structure
Easier to follow + neater
Use words such as “left alignment of ….” or “right alignment of …” or “aligned horizontally”
Dominance
Design principal
Making something stand out
Eye catching
Created by: large in size, contrasting colours, contrasting shapes
White space
Blank space in between elements
Keeps the design from becoming too cluttered or confusing
Can be any colour - doesn’t have to be white
Makes things legible, easy to understand + comprehend
Emphasises and importance is put on elements surrounded by white space
Things surrounded by white space are made clearly visible
Contrast
Principal
Occurs when two elements are different
The greater the difference the greater the contrast
Examples: size, colour, shape, typeface
Line
Helps lead the eye
Divides page/parts
Line to connect things
