Design Principes Flashcards

1
Q

A

Relative size

Relative sizes of a similar object or the same object. Its relative size will determine the hierarchy of the visual components

Q

Proportion

A

Comparative size

The comparative relationship between the size of components.

Eg.If something is out of proportion, it is bigger/smaller than what would be expected/standard

Q

Figure-ground

A

Dominant components

Figure and ground work together to create visual information. Figure refers to the components that are dominant compared to the ground on which they are placed

Q

Balance

A

Symmetrical-asymmetrical

Balance refers to the arrangement of components. It may be symmetrical, where components are mirrored across the axis to create a stable composition, or asymmetrical, where components are vary in size and are placed off centre as to create a dynamic composition

Q

Contrast

A

Opposite qualities

Uses opposite qualities to build visual tension, separate components and build hierarchy

Q

Hierarchy

A

Ordered infomation

Visual information arranged in order of importance. Attention is drawn to the most important information using scale, contrast or colour
