Q

What is Aquinas’ argument in the design argument?

A

Objects cannot achieve best result by themselves- must be guided by intelligent being. Something lacking in intelligence cannot act with intelligence, therefore explanation of working towards an end must be explained by something with intelligence.
This intelligent being is God.

Q

What is Paley’s argument?

A

Response to Hume criticism of Aquinas’ argument. Analogy of watch: watch and world show purpose, which is not an accident. Watch is designed to work to an end and needs a designer.
World works together towards an end of existence for humans, therefore needs a designer.
