Design and Technology Flashcards
Disc Sander Safety
- wear PPE
- Turn on extractor to avoid breathing in toxic dust
- only sand to smooth the edge
- use both hands
- gently move side to side
- ensure area is free of debris
- place timber on left side only

Linear Economy
once you’ve used it, it is typically thrown away and it becomes waste
e.g. bottles, coffee cups, textiles
It’s a straight line ———–>
Take, make, use, dispose
Circular Economy
Designed to benefit businesses, society, and the environment. All about finding ways to use resources more efficiently by reusing, repairing or recycling.
how does textiles contribute to the linear economy?
textile products are made, used, and disposed of. a mere 15% of discarded clothing and textiles are collected for reuse, recycling, or downcycling, while the remainder is sent for landfill and incineration.
how can we use the circular economy to reduce textile waste?
Once clothes cannot be used anymore, recycling them into new clothes allows the value of the materials to be captured at different levels.
