A design mix is a way that a business can differentiate its product from others.

Research and Development - researching new technologies
Prototypes - working model of a possible finished product to be trailed or tested
Testing - for the safety and durability of products, to conduct market research
What does having a good function mean?
It is how well the product does what it is meant to
What is the role of cost in the design mix?
It is linked to the price of the product. It may be hard to keep the cost low if the functioning and appearance is increased.
How may appearance affect a product?
Style and elegance is important in order to compete with rivals
What is managing stock?
It is the amount of materials that a business holds in the most efficient and effective way. It can include the materials that are waiting to be used in the production process, or stock waiting to be delivered to customers
What is the maximum stock level?
It is the maximum amount of stock a business is able to hold
What is the reorder level of stock?
It is the point where new stock needs to be ordered by the business.
