What is a sacrament?
A religious ceremony or ritual.
What are the sacraments of initiation?
Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation.
What are the sacraments of healing?
Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick.
What are the sacraments of service?
Marriage, Holy Orders.
What is Passover?
A Jewish festival that remembers the time when the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt.
What happened at the Last Supper?
Jesus took bread, shared it amongst his disciples saying ‘this is my body which is given up for you. Do this in remembrance of me’. He did the same with wine.
Why is Jesus called the Lamb of God?
He sacrificed Himself for our sins so we can go to heaven, just like the Israelites sacrificed lamb’s and put their blood on their doorposts to be saved from the Angel of Death at Passover.
What is the Paschal Mystery?
Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension.
What is resurrection?
Coming back to life.
What is the ascension?
Jesus’ body and soul going up to heaven.
What is the Eucharist?
_______ is the belief that the bread and wine physically become the body and blood of Jesus.
Transubstantiation.
What else is the Eucharist known as?
Mass, Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion.
What do Catholics believe about the Eucharist?
Jesus is truly, physically present in the bread and wine. The bread and wine BECOME Jesus.
What do Anglicans believe about the Eucharist?
Jesus is spiritually present in the bread and wine. The bread and wine are bread and wine AND Jesus. This is known as consubstantiation.
What do Baptists believe about the Eucharist?
The bread and wine are a symbol of Jesus’ sacrifice, it does not change.
