General Anchorage in Holmes Harbor
Depth 30-40 fathoms at the entrance to 17 fathoms at the head of the bay. Mud bottom. Good protection except from N’ly weather. Permission needed from COTP, 48 hours notice. May not anchor more than 30days without permission.
Port Townsend Explosives Anchorages
- Fairweather anchorage is 1nm SE of Pt. Hudson, 14-16 fathoms, mud. 300yd radius.
- Foulweather anchorage is .25nm SSW of Walan Pt. 12-14 fathoms, mud. 300yd radius.
Explosive Anchorage Reguations
- Need permission to anchor from COTP, no more than 30 days.
- Explosives anchorages reserved for vessesls carrying explosives, COTP may require a stby tug for vessels without power.
- Red flag by day, red light at night.
- No explosives handling w/o COTP permission.
Port Townsend Anchorage
8-10 fathoms, mud bottom.
Admiralty Bay
occasionally used, exposed to SW winds, hard bottom, strong currents.
Foulweather Bluff –
Temp Anchorage for use in Fog, .5nm N of Bluff, 10ftm +
Port Ludlow
Good anchorage, soft bottom, less than 10 fms
Kilisut Harbor
less then 10 fms, mud bottom
Mutiny Bay
affords temporary anchorage near the center in 10 to 20 fathoms; useful if overtaken by fog.
Mats Mats Bay
Excellent protection from the wind to small craft, less than 10 fathoms, sandy bottom.
