Describing The Process Model Of Emotional Regulation Flashcards
Who created the process model of emotional regulation? (+ year)
Gross (1998)
Then revised in 2010
Four main points in emotion generation process can be subject to regulation:
- Situation
- Attention
- Appraisal
- Response
(Followed by the feedback loop)
Step 1 of emotion generation process:
The sequence begins with a situation (real or imagined) that is emotionally relevant.
Step 2 of emotion generation process:
Attention is directed towards the emotional situation
Step 3 of emotion generation process:
The emotional situation is evaluated and interpreted
Step 4 of emotion generation process:
An emotional response is generated, giving rise to loosely coordinated changes in experiential, behavioural and physiological response systems
What is the feedback loop
Responses will often change the original situations that previously gave rise to them, suggesting responses can change or vary and aren’t fixed
