What is categorical data?
Data that can be named and put into categories (qualitative)
What is nominal data?
Data that is categorical but with no natural ordering
Examples of nominal data
Blood groups
Sex
Eye colour
What is ordinal data?
Categorical data that can be ordered
Examples of ordinal data
Pain severity
Grades of cancer
What is numerical data?
Data that can be assigned a number value (quantitative)
What is discrete data?
Data that can only take certain whole number values
Examples of discrete data
Number of children in a family
Number of asthma attacks in a week
What is continuous data?
Data that can take any value (within a range) that is limited only by the accuracy of the intrsument
Examples of continuous data
Age
Height
Weight
What is binary data?
Nominal data that has only two outcomes
Examples of binary data
Disease status (yes or no)
