Describe the scene in No. 1 “Cinque, dieci, venti”
Figaro is measuring the new room for the marriage bed and Susanna is trying to get his attention as she has made a hat/bonnet for the wedding.
Describe the scene in No. 5 “Via resti servita”
Susanna and Macellina are insulting each other but prentending they are compliments. Marcellina has lent Figaro money and if he cannot pay it back she is trying to force him to marry her.
Describe the scene in No. 9 “Non più andrai”
Cherubino has been drafted into the army, due to his womanising. Figaro is singing about how bad Cherubino’s life will be in the army and is playing along with the Count, whilst making fun of his friend.
Describe the scene in No. 3 “Se vuol ballare”
Figaro is singing if you will dance, my Count. He is talking about turning the Count’s plans on there head, as the Count is trying to seduce Susanna.
Describe the scene in No. 4 “La vendetta”
Bartolo is singing about wanting revenge on Figaro, as he set the Countessa (Rosina) up with the Count in Barber of Seville. Bartolo wanted to marry her, as he wanted the dowry.
Describe the scene in No. 7 “Cosa sento!”
The Count has entered, forcing Cherubino to hide. Basilio then enters, forcing the Count to hide. Basilio starts to insult the Count and talk about his lust for Susanna, which enrages the Count and makes him come out of hiding. Susanna faints with embarrassment. The Count then sings about finding Cherubino hiding in Barbarina’s house, whilst re-enacting it, and discovering Cherubino in the same way!
Describe the scene in No. 6 “Non so più cosa son”
Cherubino is singing about being in love with all women and being a hormonal teenage boy!
