• Example: nummular eczema (a form of atopic dermatitis) • Umbilicated lesions

Example: Pityriasis rosea Molluscum contagiosum
Annular
Round; active margins with central
clearing
• Seen with tinea (fungal) infections

Following a nerve segment
Shape/arrangement: linear
Follow the path of the allergen
Shape/arrangement: serpiginous
“Serpent”

• Measles-like
• Erythematous maculopapular lesions that become
confluent on the face & body
Target/targetoid
• Pink macules with purple central papules • Example: Erythema multiforme
Borders/Margins: distinct
Well-demarcated or defined;
able to draw a line around the area with confidence
Borders/margins: indistinct
Poorly defined;
borders merge with normal skin
Borders/margins: active
margin of lesion shows greater activity
than center
E.g. Tinea infections
Borders/margins: irregular
margins are notched, not smooth
E.g. malignant melanoma
