Describe cloud concepts Flashcards
What is fault tolerance?
Moving a workload automatically to another resource or system when a failure or unhealthy state is detected
What is scalability?
Ability to increase resources based on demand. It’s automated, being triggered when a metric of time or threshold is met
What are regions?
Disaster recovery boundaries that are deployed in pairs for disaster recovery and located 300 miles apart where possible.
A region belongs to a geography
What is a geography?
A data residency and compliance boundary
Geographies can have multiple regions
What’s the purpose of an availability zone?
Provides redundancy within a region, to protect against data center failure
Provides VM with a minimum of 99,99% uptime if a minimum of 2 VMs are deployed to 2 or + availability zones
If VM deployed in 1 availability zone, 99,9% uptime
What is the purpose of an availability set?
Protects VM from an in-rack failure within a datacenter
Provides VM with a 99,95% SLA
What is agility?
Agility means that you can deploy and configure cloud-based resources quickly as app requirements change
What is elasticity?
Elasticity means that you can configure cloud-based apps to take advantage of autoscaling, so apps always have the resources they need.
What is high-availability?
High availability means that cloud-based apps can provide a continuous user experience with no apparent downtime, even when things go wrong.
What is cloud bursting?
Cloud bursting is used in hybrid cloud model.
In a cloud bursting scenario, when on perm private cloud compute infrastructure is saturated, cloud based resources come online to address the increased workload
