Q

Describe a method used to collect information on the PHYSICAL factor

A

One method used to collect information on the physical factor is the General Observation Schedule (GOB). To complete the GOB I began by laying out matts in the games hall. I then began carrying out a warm up and stretch to prepare myself. I was then given a sheet of paper which consisted of a list of various gymnastic skills which varied in levels of difficulty. Besides each skill was a rating scale which I could rate myself: Good, Needs improvement, poor and not able to do. After viewing the sheet I began by going through each skill in chronological order. I would carry out a skill, which then would be recorded. I would then watch back the recording and rate myself based on the criteria of the skill to allow me to be able to provide myself with an accurate rating. I repeated this process for every skill.

Q

Describe another method used to collect information on the PHYSICAL factor

A

Another method used to collect information on the physical factor was the Focused Observation Schedule (FOB). To complete my FOB I started by laying matts out in the gym hall. I then began a warm up and stretch to prepare myself. I was then given a piece of paper which had a table on it with the performance criteria of a cartwheel. The performance criteria was divided into preparation , action and recovery of the skill. Along this was 10 boxes per criteria. I accurately completed this tool by working in pairs. I performed 10 cartwheels with appropriate rest in between. My partner recorded each cartwheel. I then watched the recordings of each cartwheel and ticked the box in reference to what part of the criteria was performed well. This meant that once complete, I was able to accurately identify which element/part of the skill is causing my cartwheel to be ineffective.

Q

Describe a strength and weakness identified for the PHYSICAL factor

A

After completing my general observation schedule I identified my forward roll as my strength in the physical factor. I know this because I rated myself Good in the GOB. When completing my forward roll I had enough momentum to complete the full rotation and enough control to be able to stand as my recovery position.

After completing my general observation schedule I identified my cartwheel as my weakness in the PHYSICAL factor. I know this because I rated myself Not Able To Do in the GOB. When completing my cartwheel I was not taking off on my left leg with enough power meaning I was unable to complete the full rotation, leading it to be unsucessful

Q

Describe an approach used to develop the PHYSICAL factor

A

An approach I used to develop the PHYSICAL factor was repetition drills. I used this to develop my cartwheel.
I worked with my partner who was my observer and recorded my approach. I completed three sets of 5 repetitions of cartwheels. My partner recorded each set which meant I was able to refer back to this evidence when logging my progress in my training diary.

Q

Describe a long and short term target set for the PHYSICAL factor

A

A long term goal set in the physical factor was to develop my cartwheel. I want to improve my GOB results from Not Able To Do to Good. I want to be able to have enough momentum to complete the full rotation. I plan to use the approach of repetition drills to achieve this.

A short term goal set in the physical factor was to achieve 5 sucessful cartwheels out of 10 in my repetition drills.

Q

Describe how you recorded/monitored/evaluated performance development in the PHYSICAL factor

A

I used a training diary to monitor my performance development in the physical factor. My training diary took form in an A4 paper booklet that I kept with my class work. At the top of each page it had the date and then it contained space for my session objective , a description of what I did, my feelings during the session and my nexts steps below as well as an area for my short term goal. At the beginning of the lesson I wrote down my short term target in to my training diary in order to provide a focus for my training. Thereafter I carried out my approach. During the session I would return periodically to my training diary to input my progress immediately after each session, I wrote down exactly what I did in chronological order without missing anything out. I then recorded how I felt about my session. After doing this I wrote down my next steps based on how my session went. I finished by reading over this information I wrote down and used it to help me set a realistic goal for next session. I would repeat this process every week for 6 weeks ensuring and I would compare results in my session weekly.

Q

Describe a method used to collect information on the SOCIAL factor

A

A method i used to collect information on the social factor was the Social performance profile wheel. I began by setting up required equipment for games of volley ball on a full size badminton court. We were split into teams of 5 and played 3 games of first to 7 with an appropriate rest time in between each game. Once all games were completed I was then provided with a piece of paper which consisted of the PPW. This took form in a dart board with 8 segments. Each segment included a social factor such as conduct, communication and etiquette. below each factor was a rating scale form 1(poor) to 9(excellent). My teacher spoke through each factor to ensure that we had a full understanding. I then began going through each factor independently and reflected on my performance in the previous games. I then rated myself based on how i felt I performed regarding the relevant factor. I did this for all factors in the PPW. At the bottom of the page there was a space where i could input my strength and weakness. I identified this by looking at the factor which i rated the highest and lowest.

Q

Describe a different method used to collect information on the SOCIAL factor

A

Another method used to collect information on the social factor was the Social questionnaire. To carry out this questionnaire i began by reading it independently in the games hall away from others. I did this following the completion of 4 matches of volley ball. The questionnaire contained 18 statements with a rating scale of 1-strongly disagree to 9-strongly agree. I would read each statement and circle a number form 1-9 based on how it relates to me based on my teams dynamics. Once i had completed all 18 statements, i was able to move on to a separate table on the questionnaire. The table included space where i was able to input my ratings form the set questions. Once completed I totalled up my ratings to form a score. I would then compare the scores on the tables to averages provided to determine my level of social cohesion in the social factor.

Q

Describe a strength and weakness identified in the SOCIAL factor

A

A strength I have identified in the social factor is my communication. I knows this because i rated myself a 8 in my PPW. When playing games of volley ball I am able to effectively communicate with my team when I am going to volley the ball. This means my team is more likely to gain accurate points.

A weakness I have identified in the social factor is my social cohesion. I know this because i rated myself a 1 in my PPW. When playing games of volley ball my team dynamics is negatively effected due to us not getting along which has a negative impact on our accuracy in a game.

Q

Describe an approach used to develop the SOCIAL FACTOR

A

One approach i used to develop my performance in the social factor was team meetings. This helped develop my social cohesion. Our teacher split us in to teams of 5 and assigned each team with a captain. The team captain was provided with a white board and pen. The team captain drew out a volley ball court and assigned each team member with a position on the court. We then completed 4 matches of first to 7 with appropriate rest in between. During this rest time our team would have a meeting where we would discuss whether we felt that our positions were working well. Depending on how each person was feeling we would make amendments to our positions and our tactics for the next game. We would have this discussion following each match.

Q

Describe a long and short term target made in the SOCIAL factor.

A

A long term goal set in the Social factor was to develop my Social cohesion. I want to increase my results of my PPW from a 1(poor) to a 8(excellent). I want to be able to have better relationships with my team mates to allow us to have more accuracy when playing matches.

A short term taget set in the Social factor was to be more vocal in discussions when carrying out the approach of team meetings. I want to get across my thoughts and feelings to allow my team mates to understand.

Q

Describe a method used to collect information on the EMOTIONAL factor

A

A method i used to collect information on the emotional factor was the Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT). To carry out the test i started by reading all 15 statements independently away from others. The test contained 15 statements relating to anxiety levels before and during my performance. Next to this was a column containing the responses rarely, sometimes and often. I would read each statement and tick a response depending on how it related to me and my levels of anxiety in my opinion. Once I had completed all 15 statements, I would then move to a second table on the SCAT. This second table contained numeric values per question for rarely, sometimes and often and I would match a numeric value to my responses for each statement.
I would then total these numeric values and compare my result to national norms to determine if I
had high, moderate or low levels of anxiety.

Q

Describe strengths and weaknesses identified in the EMOTIONAL factor

A

A strength I identified in the emotional factor was my anger. I know this because I rated myself a 9 in the emotional PPW. When playing games of volley ball I am able to keep my anger in control and not let it take over my actions in a match.

A weakness I identified in the emotional factor was my levels of fear. I know this because i rated myself a 2 in my PPW. During a performance i find it difficult to complete a successful performance without letting my fear interfere. This stops me from volleying the ball meaning I lose my team points.

Q

Describe an approach used to develop the EMOTIONAL factor

A

An approach i used to develop emotional factors was positive self talk. I used this to help control my high levels of emotional anxiety. To begin this I sat independently away from others and distractions. I then recognised negative triggers in my performance that increased my levels of anxiety and wrote them down in my jotter. I made sure to keep these private. Once I had finished writing these triggers I came up with a phrase that would align to these triggers. This was a positive phrase which was motivational. During the performance, I would RECOGNISE the negative triggers and begin saying my phrase
internally to allow me to REGROUP by changing negative feelings to positive feelings. I would then REFOCUS on my performance. Repeating this phrase for a period time allowed me to REFOCUS on my performance and play to the best of my ability.

Q

Describe long and short term targets/goals set for the EMOTIONAL
factor

A

A long term target set in the emotional factor is to reduce my levels of anxiety by 5 by my 6 week SCAT

A short term target I set was that in my next game was to aim to regroup and refocus by using my phrase in response to a feeling of anxiety. I aim improve these feelings quickly after any mistake I made

17
Q

Describe how you recorded performance development in the EMOTIONAL FACTOR

A

A method I used to record information on the emotional factor was Sport Competition Anxiety Test retesting at week 3 and 6. To carry out this test I began by reading the test independently away from others on week 3 and 6 of my training. The test contained 15 statements relating to anxiety levels before or during my performance and next to this was a column containing the responses rarely, sometimes and always.
I then compared my new scores to my baseline result
from week 1 to see if I had improved

Q

describe a method used to collect information on the MENTAL factor

A

A method I used to collect information on the mental factor is the Mental Self Reflection Sheet. (MSRS) I began setting out required equipment for games of volley ball on a full size badminton court. I played 4 matches in teams of 5 of first to 7 points, with appropriate rest time in between. I was then provided with a piece of paper which consisted of the MSRS. I would find a quiet place to complete this alone, away from others. The MSRS was a table that consisted of 4 mental factors (Mental toughness, Focus, decision making and level of arousal) and along side each factor was a rating scale of 1(poor) to 7(excellent). Below the rating scale was a box for comments to be made. After my performance I would select a rating scale from 1-7 by ticking underneath the number that I felt best represented me in my previous performance. I would then add a comment to support this rating. I would repeat this process of selecting a rating and providing a comment after each of the four matches played. I then averaged the scores per feature to determine my mental strength and my mental weakness.

19
Q

Describe strengths and weaknesses identified for the MENTAL factor

A

After completing my mental self reflection sheet I identified that my mental toughness was my strength. I know this as rated myself a 6/7 over the 4 matches recorded. I was able to block out negativity after I made any mistakes and I remained positive.

I identified that my decision making was my weakness. I know this as I rated myself a 3/7 over the 4 matches recorded. When I was in possession of the ball I always made the wrong decision to dribble for too long and avoid playing passes.

20
Q

Describe an approach used to develop the MENTAL factor

A

An approach I used to develop the mental factor was conditioned games. I used this to develop my decision making by selecting a conditioned that targeted my weakness. I began setting out required equipment for games of volley ball on a full size badminton court. My team maters were all similar ability. I had a condition placed on me in my performance. This condition was that only one of my team mates could put the ball over the net. This meant that I had to ensure that I was playing the correct skills to said person and was not putting the ball over the net first touch. If I failed to abide by this condition by putting the ball over the net, I forfeited possession to the opposition.

21
Q

Describe long and short term target set for the MENTAL factor

A

A long term target I set in the mental factor was to improve my in game decision making of when to pass, volley and put the ball over the net. I aimed to increase my MSRS score by 2 in my next retest in 6 months.

A short term target I set in the mental factor was in my next game I should aim to pass to my team mate instead of putting the ball over the net.

22
Q

Describe changes made to a personal development plan

A

One change I made to my PDP was to increase my intensity in week 4 by reducing my rest time from 2 minutes in-between games to 1;30.

Another change I made to my PDP was changing my approach from 4 vs 3 overload matches to conditioned games in week 4.
