Name some skin conditions
Psoriasis, eczema, contact dermatitis
Aetiology of psoriasis?
HLA associated and T cell mediated = early proliferation of kerationcytes
How would psoriasis present?
Well defined - red w/ scaly surface
Trunk and limbs mainly - can be nails and scalp
What complications can you get with psoriasis?
Psoriatic arthritis
Tx of psoriasis?
Reduce keratinocyte proliferation: retinoid, dithranol
Immune suppression: steroid, biologics, TNF blockers
Aetiology of eczema?
IgE mediation (no HLA) with late keratinocyte proliferation
How would eczema present?
Poorly defined - red w/o scales
Often children allergy (atopic)
Face and hands - not nail and scalp
Tx of eczema?
Identify trigger
Emollient cream/ topical steroid
Antihistamine for itch
Ab in infected
2 examples of oral manifestation of skin disease?
- Lichen plants - itchy red rash on flexor surface –> band like T cell infiltrate and saw shaped rete ridge
- Herpes infection
