What is a Carbuncle?
A cluster of interconnected furnucles that have several heads which drain
Slow to heal
Leave a large Scar
Chinese Medicine: A blockage of Qi & Blood by Toxin (painful)
How many types of Carbuncles are there?
Two:
Excess (Acute) & Deficient (Chronic)
Excess: Millet size pus filled head with pain & itching - Lesions become red, painful & burning
Deficient: Occur in Elderly, or diabetes or other deficient diseases - Defi. fluids & fire toxin, lesion is blue purple, spreads to surrounding tissue
Causes of Carbuncles
External Wind Heat or Damp Heat Toxin disturbing the flow of Qi & Blood
Internal=emotional stress leading to Qi Stag., sexual indulgence causing depletion of essence & yin - overeating spicy foods=dysf. of SP/ST
Strategy for Excess Condition
Dispel Wind, Clear Heat, Resolve Damp, Tonify qi to Expel Pus
Formulas for Excess Conditions:
- Xiang fang huo ming yin - great excess
- Wu wei xiao du yin
- Ye Ju bai du tang
Strategy for Deficient condition
Nourish Yin, Generate Fluids, Clear Heat and Tonify qi to expel pus
Formulas for Deficient condition
- Ba Zhen tang
