Head Lice
PB - Quellada lotion (Permethrin 1%)
>apply to damp hair for 10 min then rinse
KP24 (Maldison 0.5%)
>apply to dry hair, leave in overnight then rinse
Reapply in 7 days
Scabies
PB - Lyclear (Permethrin 5%)
Ascabiol (Benzol Benzoate 25%)
+Polaramine for night itch (dexchlorpheniramine 2mg)
Shower and dry then apply to whole body from neck down. Wear clean clothes and leave on overnight then rise in the morning.
Eczema/Dermatitis
Soap substitutes + Moisturisers - QV , Dermaveen (Oatmeal)
Corticosteroids - Dermaid (Hydrocortisone 1%)
Psoriasis
Soap substitutes + Moisturisers - QV , Dermaveen (Oatmeal)
Pinetarsol for bath! (Wood Tar)
Ionil T Shampoo
Salicylic acid and sulphur creams are prescribed
Ringworm
Lamisil (terbinafine 1%) paa 1-2 times daily for 1 week
Tinea
Dry toes and use a separate towel of infected site. Change socks regularly
Lamisil (terbinafine 1%) paa d for 7/7
Daktarin powder (miconazole 2%) in shoes
Nail Infection
-dull, opque, yellow, thickened nail
Dont use cosmetic nail polish to the area
Loceryl (Amorolfine 5%) 1-2 wkly for 6/12
-file down nail with ONE TIME USE file, or infection will spread. Paint the surface and allow 3-5min to dry
Mild Acne (confined to face)
Cetaphil (Oily Skin cleanser) Use first before
Benzac (benzol peroxide 2.5, 5 10%) use 5% unless hypersensitive.
Chickenpox
- widespread macular papular rash
- self resolving in 1-2 weeks
Paracetamol
Solugel (Hydrogel)
Pinetarsol bath oil
Corns/Callus
-thickened areas of skin due to pressure and friction
PG- Scholl cushion + removal pads (salicylic acid 40%)
Warts (HPV infection)
-contagious
Wart Off, Duofilm gel (salicylic acid)
Dont pick the area of the wart will spread to mouth/lips
Dandruff (seborrhoeic dermatitis)
Nizoral (ketoconazole 1-2%) twice weekly
Coal tar shampoo - twice weekly
Promote good hygiene, avoid alcohol products, cut hair short
Sunburn
Paracetamol
Solugel (hydrogel) keep in fridge and apply prn
SOOV burn spray (cetrimide and lignocaine)
Aloe vera
Promote slipslopslap, avoid uv until healed, dont use butter
Shingles (herpes zoster)
- reactivation of chickenpox
- vesicles run along the nerves of the back
Paracetamol
Zostrix (capsaicin 0.025%) qid prn
Rest and fluids
Cold Sores
-contagious when weeping
PB - Zovirax (aciclovir 5%) 5 times daily
Famvir (famciclovir 3x 500mg) stat when tingling appears >18 years old
Betadine (povidone iodine) to dry up area
Dry Mouth (Xerostomia) -anticholinergic burden
Biotene dry mouth (bicarbonate)
Sugar free lollies
Avoid alcohol containing mouthwash (Listerine)
Mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers) -<1cm diameter, <14 days duration
Paracetamol
Orabase (Carmellose) paa prn
SM33 Gel (lignocaine and salicylic acid)
Oral Thrush (Oral Candidiasis)
- white slough on tongue
- steroids, denture health, antibiotics
PB - nilstat (nystatin 100,000units) 1ml qid 2/52 Daktarin Oralgel (micronazole 2%) half spoonful qid
Toothache
Colgate neutrafluor (high fluoride) use instead of normal toothpaste bd Sovacol (Clorhexidine 0.2%)
Haemorrhoids
- itching, burning, swelling, pain
- opioids, diet
Proctosedyl (Cinchocaine 5mg, hydrocortisone 5mg) paa tds 5-7 days
Apperients - coloxyl and senna
Increase fibre intake with diet or Metamucil, toilet hygiene
Heart burn
-throat burning, flatulence, bloating
PB- Mylanta/Gaviscon liquid/tabs for immediate treatment
PB- Somac (pantoprazole 20mg) 1 bd if recurrent symptoms
Diarrhoea
-dehydration, sunken eyes, tired
Imodium (loperamide 2mg)
ORS 1 sachet in 200ml, easier to drink chilled
Motion Sickness
TravacalmNatural (ginger) 1-2 30min before travel
TravelcalmOriginal (hyoscine) 1-2 30min before travel, MAX 4 daily
Constipation
Metamucil (fibre) 1 spoon in 250mL
Coloxyl and Senna 1-2 bd
Lactulose
