Management of Acne
- Non Pharm
- Pharm for Comedonal vs Inflammatory
A
Non-Pharm
- Mild non-soap cleanser OD
- Avoid oil based cosmetics
- Do not pick/squeeze the pimples
- Avoid hot humid environments
Comedonal
- Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Topical
- Topical Retinoid - Tretinoin 0.025% topically, every second night for 2 weeks, wash off in am
Inflammatory
- Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Topical
- Antibiotic
- Doxycycline 50-100mg OD or erythromycin 250-500mg BD for 6/52
Also
- Combined OCP - ethinyloestradial+cyproterone 35microg+2mg PO OD
- Spironolactone 25-50mg PO OD

What are the side effects of Roaccutane (Isotretinoin)
?
A
- Potent teratogen, thus requires contraception
- May cause dry skin, eyes, oral mucosa, nose bleeds
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight
- Myalgias and joint stiffness
- Cannot take tetracyclines due to incr risk of intracranial hypertension
