Sarcoidosis

●Any organ system can be involved

○Patient’s need CXR, PFTs, eye exams, ECG/Holter, +/-Echocardiogram

○Cardiac disease causes 13-25% of deaths

●End stage of pulmonary sarcoidosis is fibrosis with bronchiolectasis and “honeycombing” of the lung parenchyma

●Pulmonary involvement is less common in children than adults

○arthritis, uveitis and cutaneous lesions especially common in childhood onset disease

●Lymphopenia, leukopenia and an elevated ESR can be seen in up to 40% of patients

  • Disease activity not clearly linked to glycemic control
