What duration of time must symptoms be present to diagnose MDD?

What order are the specifiers for MDD written?
MDD, single or recurrent, severity/psychotic/remission status
In order to be considered recurrent, what duration between episodes must a client not meet criteria for MDD?
At least two consecutive months.
What is anhedonia?
Lack of pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable.
What does “in partial remission” mean?
symptoms of immediately previous depressive episode are present but criteria is not fully met. OR symptoms are gone but it has been less than two months since the previous episode.
What does “in full remission” mean?
For at least the past two months, there have been no significant signs or symptoms of a depressive episode.
How would you define “mild” MDD?
Few, if any symptoms beyond the ones required to make a diagnosis are present. Symptoms are distressing, but manageable and impairment is minimal in social and occupational functioning.
How would you define “moderate” MDD?
The number of symptoms and impairment of functioning sits between mild and severe.
How would you define “severe” MDD?
The number of symptoms is in excess of that required to make a diagnosis, the intensity of the symptoms is seriously distressing and unmanageable. Symptoms severely interfere with daily functioning.
In order to diagnose persistent depressive disorder, what duration must symptoms be present?
Depressed mood for most of the day, more days than not, for at least two years.
To diagnose persistent depressive disorder, clients cannot be without symptoms from criteria A and B for ______ time?
Two months at a time.
