How do we treat depression?
Medication: antidpressants (response after 2-3 weeks)
Psychological therapies: CBT (12 sessions)
Social prescribing: exercise, company

Elated mood
Irritability

Grandiose
Little need for sleep
Poor concentration
Poor judgement
Over spending
Rapid speech
Manic depression affects only about 1% of the population
What are some symptoms of schizophrenia?
Hallucinations (hearing, seeing, or feeling )
Delusions
Abnormal behaviour
Disorganised speech (formal thought disorder)
Disturbances of emotion
What are delusions?
Fixed false beliefs not shared by others in the persons culture and that are firmly held even when there is evidence to the contrary
Often persecutory, passivity, thought alienation
How is schizophrenia treated?
Antipsychotics
Physiological therapy
Family therapy
Arts therapies
