What causes depression?
Insufficient amounts of neurotransmitters
What are SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)?
Mainly used to treat depression however can be used to treat ODD or PTSD.
What is the dosage of SSRIs?
It comes in tablet form and the lowest dose is 2 to 4 weeks.
What are the side effects of SSRIs?
Feeling agitated and having diarrhoea
What is an example of SSRIs?
Citalopram
What is Citalopram?
Used to treat low moods and sometimes panic attacks
How long does it take for Citalopram to work?
4-6 weeks
What are the side effects of Citalopram?
dry mouth and feeling tired
What are tricyclics?
An older type of antidepressant
Why aren’t Tricyclics recommended anymore?
They are more dangerous when an overdose is taken
What is the dose of Tricyclics?
50mg to 100mg a day
What are the side effects of Tricyclics?
Constipation, difficulty peeing and dry mouth
