Departure Procedures Flashcards
Obstacle Departure Procedure
Only provides obstacle clearance
Standard Instrument Departure
In addition to obstacle clearance it reduces pilot and controller workload by simplifying ATC clearances and minimizing radio communication
Diverse Departure Procedure
All airports with a published IAP but no DP meet the diverse airport criteria
This means an airport has no obstacles within 200ft altitude/NM up to an MEA
Diverse airport procedures provide obstacle clearance when no DP is published
Turns are allowed only after reaching 400ft AGL
Diverse Vector Area
Allows ATC to provide vectors instead of utilizing an ODP
Visual Climb over Airport
A departure option for IFR aircraft if VMC
Pilot visually conducts climbing turns over the airport up to a published “climb to” altitude
Designed to avoid obstacles beyond 3 SM from the DER as an alternative to complying with the climb gradients of 200ft/NM
Departure Procedures
Ensures obstacle clearance provided:
The airport crosses the DER at or above 35ft AGL
No turns are made until 400ft AGL and
Climbs are made at least 200FPNM
FPM calculation from FPNM
FPNM x Groundspeed / 60
