DEPARTMENTAL DESIGN AND PLANNING Flashcards
Are patterned for general hospital settings but most
factors will be applicable for specialized treatment facilities offering PT
Planning and Design
- Pt’s should have basic knowledge in
planning and designing PT facility for
variations in approaches to delivery
of PT services - Actively involved in the process to
make major contributions (interest
and knowledge) - Introduce innovations to improve
concept of existing methods in design
and construction of equipment
Planning ang Innovation
PERSPECTIVES IN DEPARTMENTAL
DESIGN AND PLANNING
- Planning and innovation
- Planning
It aims to conceptualize a program
before it exists and to envision the
type of facility required to meet
program needs.
Planning
CONSIDERATIONS IN PLANNING:
- Existing services
- Population characteristics
- Referral Sources
- Services and Activities
- Type and size of PT clinic or
rehabilitation center - Changes in delivery and practice
FIRST REQUIREMENTS
- Accessibility
- Proximity to elevators is desirable to
serve both in and outpatient - First/main floor in a prominent area
is recommended (for outpatient
department) with access to nearby
parking
FIRST REQUIREMENTS (2)
- Functional Areas
- four separate functions (hydrotherapy,
gymnasium, treatment cubicle area,
administrative area) - Space consideration includes the type of
patient treated, anticipated
utilization, constraints imposed by
cost and architectural barriers
FIRST REQUIREMENTS (3):
- Staffing
- Ratio of staff to patient visits
- Number and type of professional and
support staff needed to operate
Outline in specific detail (accessibility, types of patients, functional areas, etc.) the planned
program and how it will function. It will enable the architect to plan a schematic drawing for a construction project.
Narrative proposal
A diagram or scheme drawn to scale showing the relationship and traffic flow among various functional areas and other significant elements of the
department
Schematic Drawing
The formula for the Estimated Total Number
E= TO/UA
Expressed in minutes: includes the time required for preparation, undressing, and dressing and cleaning up
Occupancy time (O):
Estimate the total number of patient treatments per day that will require cubicle space
Treatment time (T):
It is defined as each occasion that a patient enters a cubicle and receives treatment in the
cubicle and then leaves.
Treatment
Time per the day that a cubicle COULD be used for
patient treatment. Expressed in minutes would
ordinally not include the lunch hour
Available Time (A)
